Faculty Chair Welcome:

Hello ISRC community! I am so pleased to welcome you as your faculty chair. I have been a faculty member of the Department of Spanish and Portuguese since 2006 and a faculty fellow of ISRC for just about as long.

In my home department I teach first, second, and third- year Spanish courses, primarily Intermediate Spanish and Spanish Phonetics and Phonology. Areas of special interest include second language acquisition, task-based language teaching, phonetics and phonology and Spanish for the professions. I love fostering real-world connections for our students and recently developed a 4-year eTandem language initiative with la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, la Universidad Tecnológica de Bolívar (Colombia), and la Universidad San Buenaventura (Colombia). When not at work I love spending time outdoors, all things botanical, cooking, dancing, pranks, and spending time with my children.

Our students come from various cultural backgrounds, schools, and locations, but all come together at West Fairchild. If you live here, you’ll get to celebrate International Dinner, our annual winter formal, where residents prepare dishes from across the globe and we celebrate our culinary & cultural diversity. You’ll also get to sing your heart out at karaoke, study with friends, watch international films, participate in making international crafts, and have the chance to go on exciting cross-college excursions to experience the best of Evanston and Chicago’s wealth of cultural, historical, artistic, and culinary opportunities. We can’t wait to meet you and have you in our community! 🍍🍍
